Done-for-you (DFY) content is a service model where an external team handles the full content production lifecycle on behalf of a client — strategy, scripting, capture, production, editing, posting, ongoing iteration. The client's involvement is limited to approvals and a small set of inputs at the start.
DFY content predates AI by decades — agencies have offered done-for-you blog posts, ghostwritten thought leadership, and managed social media services since the early 2000s. What changed in 2024-2026 is the production cost per piece.
With AI clones and AI-driven generation, the marginal cost of producing one additional talking-head video drops from hundreds of dollars (filming + editing time) to a few dollars (model compute). This shifts what's economically possible at the service tier:
- Pre-AI DFY: ~5-10 pieces per month, typically text or static graphics
- Post-AI DFY: 30+ pieces per month including talking-head video
The economics of DFY content as a service are now competitive with running a small internal content team — without the management overhead, hiring time, or capacity ceiling.
What's still human in DFY content:
- Strategy (which topics, which platforms, which audience)
- Scriptwriting (humans write, AI delivers)
- Quality review (editorial approval before posting)
- Client relationship and feedback loops
Common scope of a DFY content engagement:
- Multi-platform short-form video
- 20-50 pieces per month
- Weekly or biweekly review cadence
- 3-12 month engagement terms
